Prayer for our Nation
Tomorrow is the annual National Day of Prayer. I trust that my readers are quite aware that there is a secret and invisible war going on behind the scenes in our nation. No, I am not speaking of the Coronavirus. That is only one of many outward manifestations of battles being fought in the secret war. It is a war between the Children of Light and the Children of Darkness. It is a war between the forces of good and the forces of evil. (And no one in this nation will long remain a bystander because your very liberties and your very lives are at stake.
At its root, the war is spiritual--and its results and consequences manifest in the physical and geo-political realm. Very real ! So to all Christians: you have been drafted! Put on your spiritual armor (see Ephesians 6) and grab your sword, which is the Word of God, and pray--especially on the National Day of Prayer. Pray as you are led by His Spirit and/or use the following prayer.
Prayer for our Nation
I set my face unto You, Lord God,
to seek by prayer and supplications.
And I pray unto the LORD my God, and make my confession, and say,
O Lord, the great and dreadful God,
we have sinned, and have committed iniquity,
and have done wickedly, and have rebelled.
O Lord, righteousness belongs unto You,
but unto us confusion of faces (open shame),
as at this day, because we have sinned against You.
To the Lord our God belongs mercy and forgiveness,
though we have rebelled against Him;
neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God
to walk in his laws (teachings),
which He set before us by His servants the prophets.
All this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer
before the LORD our God,
that we might turn from our iniquities,
and understand Your truth.
Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil,
and brought it upon us:
for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works
which he does: for we obeyed not his voice.
And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought Your people forth
"out of darkness into [Your] marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9),
we have sinned, we have done wickedly.
Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of Your servant,
And his/her supplications.
O my God, incline Your ear, and hear; open Your eyes;
for we do not present our supplications before You for our righteousness, but for Your great mercies.
O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do;
defer not, for Your own sake, O my God:
for Your people,who are called by Your name.
For You have said:
"If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain,
or if I command the locust to devour the land,
or if I send pestilence among My people;
if my people, which are called by My name,
shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face,
and turn from their wicked ways;
Then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin,
and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
In the name of the King of kings and Lord of lords, Amen.
